All students enrolled on the Virtual Learning Centre will be required to have access to a computer (PC or Mac) which can connect to the Internet (usually done through a modem and an Internet Service Provider - ISP). The minimum requirement is a 56kbps modem connection (standard for most modems). If you've got broadband or are using an academic or corporate network, you're laughing. ![]()
Your web browser needs to be:
- Microsoft IE 5 or later
- Netscape 6 or later
- Opera 6 or later
- Mozilla 1.3 or later (including Mozilla derivatives like Firebird/Firefox)
- or any other modern web browser that can display CSS formatted text correctly,
You will need to have:
- Javascript enabled
- Cookies enabled (used only for managing your e-learning session)
Note - If the system keeps returning to the log in page when you're trying to log in, the most common cause is that your own computer has a firewall that is stripping "referrer information" from your browser. So, you need to either tell the firewall to "trust" the site, or you'll need to disable it.
The setting you're looking for is the one that disables "HTTP_REFERER". Instructions on how to do this can be found on the software manufacturer's web site. Here are some instructions for fixing Norton firewall products.
The following software is also required to fully access all Virtual Learning Centre facilities:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- WinZip or other zip software
The key software listed above along with a number of other useful software and plug-ins can be downloaded free from the Virtual Learning Centre Download Centre.
