The VLC Toolbar
The VLC Toolbar is made and supplied by Conduit.com. Like us, they are committed to your privacy and security. The software is completely safe to install and use: it is unobtrusive, easy to deactivate and remove, and does not transmit any information in a manner that can identify a user. Unidentifiable statistics are sent to Conduit's system regarding usage of toolbar features. The statistics are completely anonymous and do not contain any personal identification. They do not match individual users with their specific Web or toolbar usage and don't share the specifics with anybody. Most importantly, their software does only what it's supposed to do - help users search and surf more effectively. Moreover, the toolbar:
- DOES NOT spy on your browsing habits.
- DOES NOT launch pop-up or pop-under advertisements. Conduit's business model is based on displaying sponsored links on search results pages (advertisers pay per click, not per appearance).
- DOES NOT "hijack" your searches.
- DOES NOT modify pages you visit.
- DOES NOT block uninstallation. The toolbar can be removed in seconds by using a standard uninstaller.
- DOES NOT create security holes: The toolbar will not make it easier for other people or programs to access your computer.
- DOES NOT and will not sell or rent your email address and other personal information.
Cookies:
In order to use this site, you must have cookies enabled in your browser. How to do this varies a bit from one browser version to another. Here are some step-by-step instructions for the most popular browsers.
- When you enter this site your computer will automatically be issued with a cookie. Cookies are text files that identify your computer to our server.
- Cookies in themselves do not identify the individual user, just the computer used. Many sites do this whenever a user visits their site in order to track traffic flows.
- Cookies only record those areas of the site that have been visited by the computer in question, and for how long. Users have the opportunity to set their computers to accept all cookies, to notify them when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. The last of these, of course, means that certain personalised services cannot then be provided to that user.
- NB: Even if you haven't set your computer to reject cookies you can still browse our site anonymously until such time as you register for an account.
- The Virtual Learning Centre - http://learningcentre.baillie.org.uk - uses two cookies:
- The essential one is the session cookie, usually called MoodleSession. You must allow this cookie into your browser to provide continuity and maintain your login from page to page. When you log out or close the browser this cookie is destroyed (in your browser and on the server).
- The other cookie is purely for convenience, usually called something like MOODLEID. It just remembers your username within the browser. This means when you return to this site the username field on the login page will be already filled out for you. It is safe to refuse this cookie - you will just have to retype your username every time you log in.
